The Principal
Dave Hoskins was appointed as the first principal of Mary E. Britton Middle School on March 18, 2024. His career in education began at Elkhorn Middle School in Frankfort, KY, where he taught language arts and coached football from 2001 to 2004. In 2004, Mr. Hoskins joined Edythe J. Hayes Middle School as a founding staff member, teaching 8th grade language arts and serving as the school’s first football coach. Over the next 20 years, he held various leadership roles at EJH, including six years as associate principal and athletic director, followed by 12 years as head principal.
During his tenure at E.J. Hayes, Mr. Hoskins led key initiatives, including the revision of the school’s accelerated learning program and the creation of the Academy Preparation Program. He also implemented the Continuous Classroom Improvement Model, which contributed to the school's recognition as the top-ranked middle school in Fayette County from 2017 to 2024.
In addition to his work at the school level, Mr. Hoskins has served as chair of the Juvenile Restorative Justice Board of Directors and is a member of Eastern Kentucky University's College of Education Advisory Council. He has also contributed to several accreditation and review teams for Cognia, where he evaluated the needs of underperforming schools.
A native of Hazard, KY, Mr. Hoskins holds both bachelor's and master’s degrees in English Education from the University of Kentucky, as well as a master's degree and Rank I certification in Educational Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University.
