Mary E. Britton Middle School Welcomes New Guidance Counselors, Jill Embry and Brett Johnson
We are excited to announce the hiring of Jill Embry and Brett Johnson as the first guidance counselors for Mary E. Britton Middle School! Both bring diverse backgrounds and a wealth of experience that will enrich our school community and provide essential support to our students as we prepare for our opening in 2025.
Meet Jill Embry
Jill Embry joins us with a strong background in counseling, having previously served at Garrard County and Scott County High Schools. Her experience in supporting students across different high school settings brings invaluable insight into guiding middle school students through their academic and personal growth.
In addition to her counseling work, Jill has a rich history in education, having taught health and physical education, and coached girls' basketball. Jill’s dedication to student well-being extends beyond the school walls—she founded the Claire Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting families facing challenges related to difficult pregnancies, deliveries, or infant loss. Her compassion, experience, and commitment to service make her an ideal fit for our Britton Bear community. Jill is eager to bring her holistic approach to guidance counseling, fostering a safe and supportive space for all students.
Meet Brett Johnson
Brett Johnson brings an equally impressive background to his role as a guidance counselor. Since 2009, Brett has served in multiple roles at Harrison Elementary School, including health and PE teacher, reading interventionist, and most recently, behavior coach and interventionist. His experience in these areas has given him a comprehensive skill set in creating and implementing effective student support plans, which will be instrumental as we work to meet the needs of our students.
Beyond his expertise in student support, Brett is a former college athlete, having played basketball at Asbury University. His background in sports complements his approach to teamwork, perseverance, and leadership, which he instills in his students. Brett is excited to join the Britton Bear family and is looking forward to building strong, supportive relationships with students as they navigate middle school.
Together, Jill and Brett will play an essential role in shaping the guidance program at Mary E. Britton Middle School. Their combined experience and passion for student support will help build a nurturing environment, ensuring that every Britton Bear feels valued, understood, and equipped to succeed. Please join us in welcoming Jill Embry and Brett Johnson to our team!
